Useful Information about SSA-1099

This tax season, we’re reminding tax preparers that people who receive Social Security benefits can go online to get a replacement SSA-1099 benefit statement (or SSA-1042S for nonresident aliens). This is the statement of benefits we mail to Social Security beneficiaries every January to include with their tax return for the previous year.

This service can save valuable time for tax preparers when their clients forget to bring their benefit statement with them. It’s easy with a my Social Security online account. Your clients can sign in or create an account here. It’s free, fast, and secure!

Note: Forms SSA-1099 and 1042S concern Social Security benefits only. We do not furnish similar statements for Supplemental Security Income, or SSI.

Your clients who are still working can use their my Social Security account to access their personalized Social Security Statement for estimates of future benefits and to check the earnings information we have for them in our records. This is important because we base our benefit calculations on workers’ lifetime earnings.
